Unemployment Insurance Claims Specialist I

The Department of Workforce Services is seeking four motivated and highly skilledUnemployment Insurance Claims Specialists I's to join the Unemployment Insurance (UI) team. You will take incoming calls and gather information from customers who are in need of filing for unemployment benefits. Employees in this position may be asked to travel to employment centers to conduct Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) appointments with unemployment insurance applicants.

Principal Duties
The Unemployment Claims Specialist will perform the following duties:
  • Provides clients with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations.
  • Collects and reviews client information to determine clients'/applicants' eligibility and options.
  • Acts as a resource to provide information or determine the most effective way of meeting the needs of management, staff, clients or customers.
  • Maintains accurate records and logs.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines
  • Receives, researches and responds to incoming questions or complaints; provides information, explains policy and procedures and/or facilitates a resolution.
  • Counsels clients and prospective clients; screens referrals, provides community outreach.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who:
  • Has prior experience in working with government agencies, non-profit organizations, customer service related fields, or teaching adults.
  • Has great customer service skills.

  • Preference may be given to those fluent in Spanish
