Curatorial Assistant (full-time)

If so, then the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is looking for you!

We have an opening for a full-time Curatorial Assistant to assist curators in the research and organization of exhibitions. The Assistant will be responsible for preparing, coordinating, and monitoring loan forms; drafting wall texts and labels; creating exhibition checklists; monitoring deadlines and deliverables; compiling informational packets on traveling exhibitions; compiling bibliographies and photographic materials for catalogue preparation; and preparing exhibition team meeting agendas. To be successful in this role, you must be able to:

  • Work independently with a minimum of supervision to develop solutions to assigned tasks; oversee interns.
  • Assist with organization of the Exhibition and/or Collection Committee meetings, including preparation of preliminary materials, research on and written analyses of proposed acquisitions and gifts, minutes, and any necessary follow-up.
  • Assist with management and periodically participate in curation of smaller MCA exhibitions.
  • Book artist and curator travel and accommodation as required, and prepare expense reports.
  • Conduct general research on artists and special projects as assigned and maintain departmental artists’ files.
Preferred qualifications are a MA or MFA in Art History, Art, Curatorial Studies or Museum Studies, or equivalent degree, and:

  • Two years museum experience and/or research position at college or university level.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm and as required for implementation of responsibilities and related museum activities. General mobility throughout the museum properties is required.
